Emily O'Brien nominated
for an Emmy Award

MiraCosta Theatre alum, Emily O'Brien, was nominated for a Daytime Emmy today on "The View" for her portrayal of Jana Hawkes on CBS's "The Young and the Restless." She was nominated for the category, "Outstanding Younger Actress In A Drama Series." While she did not win, we are proud of her all the same.

Emily was a Theatre major at MiraCosta College from 2003-2005 and starred in a number of MiraCosta plays including "Gypsy," "Moon Over Buffalo," "The Children's Hour," "The Vagina Monologues" and "The Real Inspector Hound." Also while at MiraCosta in 2005, she was also a finalist in the acting competition, the Irene Ryan Awards (finished in the top 16 out of 300) at the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival. Emily is still an avid supporter of MiraCosta College, comes for special visits to talk to the theatre students and continues to attend all MiraCosta theatre productions including "Once Upon a Mattress" and "Proposals" on past opening weekends.

A recent e-mail message from alumni, Asia Leads now at San Francisco State:
"Recently, the shows for the upcoming year were announced and the director I am currently working with, Barbara Damashek (wrote Tony nominee musical, Quilters), is going to be doing Chess in the fall.
In addition to that, Barbara mentioned that wherever I came from, or whatever training I had, was completely correct, and that my junior college is doing something right and should keep up the great work! Coming from her, thats a huge compliment. She has also been working with (fellow MCC Alum) Ryan Hoyny, and knows we come from the same background and mentioned it to him as well!
Thanks for all the opportunities you have given me!" |
